High-Level Conclusions from the UK-EU Novel Foods Roundtable

Description

The BioIndustry Association (BIA), Bezos Centre for Sustainable Proteins, and the European Biosolutions Coalition (EBC) convened a UK-EU roundtable in July 2026 to discuss the future of novel foods regulation in Europe.

As the UK regulatory sandbox for Cell Cultivated Products nears completion, UK-EU reset negotiations progress, and the EU debates the future of novel foods under the Biotech Act I, participants explored how Europe can create a more innovation-friendly and internationally competitive regulatory framework.

The discussion highlighted the value of regulatory sandboxes, the need for closer UK-EU regulatory learning, and the importance of fostering dialogue between innovators, policymakers, consumers, and farmers. Together, these actions can help strengthen European food security, resilience, and leadership in food biotechnology.
