The European Biosolutions Coalition, together with a broad alliance of stakeholders, calls on EU policymakers to retain clear and explicit references to agriculture and the bioeconomy in the upcoming Horizon Europe framework (2028–2034). A joint statement has been delivered to the European Parliament, emphasising the risks of replacing concrete sectoral terms with broader language, as proposed in amendments 48 and 51. Such changes could reduce visibility, create uncertainty, and ultimately weaken support for sectors that are at the core of the EU’s ambitions for sustainability, rural development, and innovation. Maintaining clear prioritisation of agriculture and the bioeconomy in Horizon Europe is more than a question of wording—it is a prerequisite for a strategic, focused, and effective research and funding landscape in Europe. The coalition urges decision-makers to uphold the structure proposed by the European Commission, offering long-term clarity, stability, and direction for all actors engaged in Europe’s journey towards a sustainable future. We thank all partners supporting this initiative. The full statement is available below.
