High-level conclusions from the UK-EU roundtable on GMO regulation

The UK BioIndustry Association (BIA) and the European Biosolutions Coalition convened a roundtable in May 2026 to address the challenges posed by divergent GMO regulatory frameworks in the UK and EU in light of the reset negotiations, as well as the ongoing negotiations of the EU Biotech Act.

Our organizations recommend promoting a more innovation-friendly, aligned approach for the EU through establishing a cross-European regulatory sandbox, adopting a more proportionate, science-based regulatory approach, and implementing reforms rapidly to enhance Europe's global competitiveness in biotechnology and biosolutions.
