The EBC co-signs call for a Strategy for Critical Agricultural Technologies

A group of leading European organisations has launched a call for an EU Strategy for Critical Agricultural Technologies. The manifesto highlights how regulatory barriers, lengthy approval procedures and fragmented policymaking are limiting farmers’ access to innovation, undermining Europe’s agricultural competitiveness and resilience.  

We urge policymakers to treat agricultural technologies as the strategic assets they are to ensure that farmers have access to the needed tools for strengthening food security, productivity and sustainability. 

The manifesto addresses a key challenge of European agriculture and innovation: the regulatory barriers and lengthy approval procedures that often prevent new technologies from reaching farmers in a timely manner.  

While competitors in other regions gain access to innovative tools years earlier, European farmers are left waiting for solutions that can strengthen productivity, resilience and sustainability.  

By supporting a Strategy for Critical Agricultural Technologies, EBC calls for a more coherent policy framework that recognises the role of innovation in food security and strategic autonomy, while ensuring that promising technologies are assessed and deployed more efficiently across Europe.  

The manifesto is signed alongside CropLife Europe, the European Landowners’ Organization (ELO), the International Biocontrol Manufacturers Association (IBMA), the European Biostimulants Industry Council (EBIC), the European Consortium of the Organic-Based Fertiliser Industry (ECOFI), Alliance for Biosolutions, the Czech Agrarian Chamber and Consumer Choice Center.
