EBC Comments on the European Commission’s Food and Feed Omnibus

Description

As Europe seeks to strengthen its competitiveness, sustainability and food system resilience, the Food and Feed Omnibus represents a critical opportunity to modernise regulatory frameworks affecting biosolutions.

For too long, complex, fragmented and slow approval processes have delayed the market entry of innovative biopesticides and feed additives, limiting Europe’s ability to scale sustainable solutions in agriculture and food production.

In this paper, the European Biosolutions Coalition sets out its assessment of the European Commission’s Food and Feed Omnibus.

EBC welcomes the proposal’s ambition to simplify and streamline regulation, particularly the measures aimed at accelerating approvals, improving predictability, and reducing administrative burdens for biosolutions.

At the same time, the paper highlights remaining challenges — including persistent national divergences, implementation risks and the need for clearer guidance — that must be addressed to ensure that regulatory simplification translates into genuine, harmonised market access across the EU, especially for SMEs.
