Open Letter: MEPs and EBC Call for an Ambitious and Horizontal Biotech Act II

Description

The European Biosolutions Coalition, together with cross-party Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), has sent an open letter to Executive Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné of the European Commission. The letter calls for a strong, clearly distinct, and horizontal Biotech Act II to unlock the full potential of industrial biotechnology and biosolutions across Europe. While the Commission’s work on Biotech Act I and ongoing initiatives in sectors such as food, feed and chemicals are important steps, these efforts remain sector-specific and do not address the critical cross-sectoral barriers. Major challenges, including slow market access, fragmented regulation, and uncertain investment climate, continue to hinder the growth and scale-up of European biosolutions and hamper the Single Market. The letter highlights three priorities for Biotech Act II.

The EBC and supporting MEPs look forward to constructive dialogue with the Commission and stand ready to contribute evidence and practical recommendations to help ensure that Biotech Act II lays a strong foundation for a bio-based future in Europe. We thank all MEPs supporting this initiative. The full letter can be read below.
